Harvest Estate in West Byron is the first residential subdivision to be constructed in Byron Bay in more than 30 years. It is a 150-lot master planned community that focuses on sustainability and conservation of the delicate natural environment. Set on 150 acres Harvest Estate features more than 50,000 sqm of recreational open space, bike paths, walking tracks with an additional 38ha of land to be conserved in perpetuity.

Key Achievements

Situated on the busy Ewingsdale Road approach to Byron Bay, this high-profile master planned estate in the latest addition to a fast-growing resume of quality projects delivered by the Winslow Northern NSW team.

Led by Project Manager Darcy Chapman, the NNSW Team was a late inclusion on the invite-only tender process. Through demonstrated experience and capability, as well as providing significant cost-saving alternatives, Winslow was able to provide a value-for-money alternative to the incumbent contractors.

The team overcame significant constructions issues, not least of which was sourcing more than 70,000m3 of suitable sand fill, and then coordinating the logistics of importing it via one of the busiest transport routes in regional NSW. Restrictive vehicle movements meant careful planning was required to balance resources

Delicate control measures were developed and implemented to protect a threatened frog specie, which is the size of a thumb nail. Through close and regular consultation with the local environmental protection group, all measures were taken to ensure the frog’s habitat was not adversely affected.

Because of a lack of contractors willing to tackle the challenging site conditions for retaining walls, the team produced an innovative solution that delivered significant time and cost saving.

The MagnumStone product was offered as an alternative that not only overcame problematic subgrade conditions, but also was an opportunity to self-perform and therefore overcome limited market availability. This also enabled the team to take control of the retaining wall program and complete works in concert with critical path activities.

The project is on program and budget and due to be delivered in August 2023. Working collaboratively with Planit Consulting, Winslow is looking forward to building all future stages for Tower Holdings and creating a sustainable healthy and vibrant community for future generations.
