Winslow Infrastructure is delivering remediation and early works at the Fishermans Bend Innovation Precinct, preparing the former Holden site for long-term redevelopment. The project involves complex ground conditions, contamination management, utility coordination and major civil works, all delivered within a highly constrained urban environment alongside multiple stakeholders and existing services.
Key Achievements
Winslow successfully delivered deep sewer and stormwater infrastructure in challenging Coode Island ground conditions below the water table, developing practical construction solutions that enabled approvals from South East Water, KLM and WSP.
The project included hand-tunnelled stormwater outfall works, installation of extensive electrical conduit networks and construction of major precast service pits. Winslow also managed a comprehensive remediation programme involving asbestos abatement, contaminated soil treatment and material classification across the site.
A key project success was the implementation of rigorous material tracking and environmental controls, ensuring compliant handling, transport, treatment and reuse of contaminated materials. The site presented a broad range of contamination challenges associated with its industrial history, including hydrocarbons, industrial waste, asbestos-containing materials and other regulated contaminants. Through careful planning and collaboration with specialist contractors and environmental consultants, remediation activities were completed safely and in accordance with regulatory requirements.
